One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

I found out quite by accident that the National Museum of Music is now open after having gone through 3 years of renovations or as one article puts it they were going through an architectural metamorphosis.
I think that it was a stroke of luck that I was out walking the dog in Vermillion and by crazy random happenstance I ran into Nate Welch of the VDC and he introduced me to Scott Lawerence. Scott is the Chair of the Board of trustees. for the National Museum of Music and he was wearing his name tag. So being in the dark I ask him when was the Museum set to reopen. The answer Today he says. Sept 24th. I was happy to hear that. It was a short introduction and meet but I got good information and I can say that the Museum's marketing campaign had been successful. Billboards had been saying for years to stay tuned and here I am tuned up to go visit the museum.
I can't wait and to share my enthusiasm I thought I would jot down a few notes here to do just that. Vermillion, S.D. is home to the National Music Museum and boast an incredible instrument collection and exhibits that pay homage to music the world over. In fact the collection is over 15,000 musical instruments and the historical significance of some of these instruments unsurpassed. The Museum is located on the campus of the University of South Dakota.
The new 16,000 square foot expansion, deemed the Lillibridge Wing introduces a performance hall and exhibit space and more. The Groves Gallery will host exhibits that are not addressed in permanent exhibits and showcase traveling exhibits. The first exhibit will be the NMM goes electric looking at the history of electric and amplified stringed instruments... You know like guitars. The best part is admission is free. If you are coming to stay at the Yankton LakeHouse this museum is a great add to your itinerary. Don't miss out on the NMM sale on the Korn Kobbler poster for $2.50 either on your visit. Nope not joking.
The NMM possess 'relics' from Cremona, Italy to our own past like America's most nonsensical band discovered by Guy Lombardo back in 1939, The Korn Kobblers. With my favorite hit "Where the Sweet Mamas Grow" available as a video here no less. Yankton even has ties to those infamous Korn Kobblers.
Vermillion is just 23 minutes away and with the home base of the LakeHouse you can do a day trip and visit a winery, catch a Yotes game, enjoy some food and most of all you can visit a national treasure such as the NMM.
I will just leave this here.
