About 30 minutes ago the Ice Fishing tourney kicked off. Started in Brainerd Minnesota some years back the event took a turn in 2020 as it was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many things it moved virtual and last year over 4000 people participated mainly across the state of Minnesota. This year it get's bigger and Yankton, SD folk can participate.
Listed on one of the Yankton event calendars it runs from 8 am until 3 pm CST. Uncle Dan has encouraged both Wyatt and Elliot to join him as he gives it a go. Eligible species for the tournament are walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, and sunfish. The entry fee for the contest is $50.
So far this year it has been fairly warm in January but the ice looks good and we saw an ice yacht sailing last weekend on the lake. Lewis and Clark Lake while frozen and still is a contrast because you can see the waves and movement all throughout. With the dusting of snow yesterday it even appears like we have whitecaps out there. Unlike uncle Dan I think I am going to hang inside The LakeHouse with the fire on. #coffee I will keep an eye out for him.
Visit virtual ice fishing for more details, and of course my favorite part is you will need an app called fish donkey... yep. Good Luck!
